I feel like the end of soccer came and went and was overshadowed by the sickness that came upon our household. So, now I just want to give a final summary of how our season ended since it seemed to consume our lives for the last 3 months.
My soccer team took a hit during the 2nd half of the season with the loss of one student due to poor grades and then the loss of another one for a week due to injury. Plus, I had one player who could only play on certain days. So at one point we were down to playing with 8 vs. 11. I have to say that it was TOUGH for my girls. They played really well and fought hard, but in the end weren't able to win any more regular season games. Our final win-loss-draw standings were 4-7-1. We ended up 6th in the conference. BUT... we had a few former players join our team for the last week and so we were able to play the tournament with a full set of 11. The girls played well and ended up capturing 4th place for the tournament. One of my defenders even won the "Best Defender" award overall.
Eric's team played well too. They ended their season in 6th place as well but then fell sadly at the tournament and ended up in 7th place. It's been a tough year for Eric BUT the glimmer of hope at the end was that his team was given the Sportsmanship Award by all the other teams.
We will both, Lord willing, NOT be coaching soccer next year so we were glad to end the season well. Now we can move on and begin wrapping up our school year over this next month. I cannot believe it is MAY! But... here we go!
