These pictures were taken yesterday at 9 weeks pregnant. However, the baby is measuring a little small right now at only 8 wks 1 day. 1.68 cm. My initial take on this... must be a boy! (Being that Emma took after me being a "big baby" and she was a girl, so this one must take after his smaller Daddy???) Only time will tell!

For Emma's 10 month birthday, Eric had a 4-day vacation from school for Lunar New Year. It was really great to have him home those extra days. We stayed home and got a lot of housework done including taking down the Christmas decorations! On Monday we also dressed Emma up in her hanbok again (which fits her WAY better now) and took a New Year's gift down to our landlord's family. The above picture was snapped just previous to this time.

A Dixie Chicks song comes to mind here... :) Well, part of it anyway. Purrl didn't have to die. BUT we were finally able to take her in to the Animal Shelter on base. Purrl has had a long line of owners and we took her a year and a half ago when one of our good friends left Korea. But then we weren't able to find another home for her so we have now relinquished her to "Homeward Bound" which has a 100% success rate at adopting out their animals. We know she is in good hands and are SO thankful to our friend, Steve Haselman, for signing us on base today and taking us to the shelter! Yay! I'm just glad to have the process finally over with. Now it is just Mama, Daddy, Baby, & Jack (our other cat that is actually OURS) here at home. Happiness.

Lazy Last Week of Break

This last week of Eric's Christmas Break has been pretty uneventful. We've mostly just stayed home and don't have a whole lot of blogworthy things to say. (Well, there is one thing but I'll share about that later.) We did snap a few random pics of Emma, though. So here is your weekly dose.

9 Months = A Big Girl

On Christmas Eve my baby girl turned 9 months old. So, we figured it was high time we went from the super out-grown baby bath (pictured below) to the big girl bath (also pictured below). Tonight was the 1st night we tried it and needless to say, we had a MUCH happier baby and bath time experience. Hopefully the smiles will continue as Emma has never really enjoyed bath time much. Anyway, as you enjoy these few pictures I'll also give you a few interesting tidbits of what this big 9 month old has been up to.

I'm not sure what Emma weighs exactly this month since we haven't had a Dr.'s appointment but since she was sick last week and considering the fact that she didn't grow too much last month, I'm thinking she didn't gain too much weight this month. I'd put her at 22-23 pounds. She fits into 12 month sized clothes perfectly. She wears size 3 diapers and size 1 or 2 shoes. She is a master at pulling up on ANY furniture in the house and walks around EVERYWHERE, even along the walls. She drinks 4 bottles a day, 6-7 ounces each. She eats 3 solid meals a day plus snacks sometimes. She is the queen of finding cheerios on the floor and eating them. She has 8 teeth. We can tell she understands many things we say to her now including the following: "Where's Daddy?" "Where's Jack?" (the cat) "Go get it!" "Yay!" "No no, don't touch!" "Come here!" And Emma, especially after she got sick and felt rotten last week, ended up mastering the word, "Mama" and also does really good at "Didi" which is her version of Daddy. (It DOES makes sense since the 2nd syllable of Daddy sounds like "Di" so she just repeats that twice.) Emma's typical sleep habits are the same as last month, sleeping from 7:30pm-6am (or 6:30). And she takes 2 naps a day. Besides her mommy and daddy, her favorite person is Teal Romsa (who often babysits for her). She loves scooting across the floor, especially to chase the cats! She likes books, but mostly for the fun of opening and closing them or eating them. She still never really looks at the pictures or seems to listen to the story. She DOES have 2 favorite books, though, that have touch and feel animals in them and she seems to sit and listen/interact with those, ok.

Ok, that's all I can think of for now. Any more and I would feel like I'm just rambling on with too many obscure stories. BUT, we love our Emma and are having a blast watching her grow and change before our very eyes.

Christmas Day

Our Christmas Day started off bright and early at 5am when Little Miss Sunshine woke up early and wouldn't let anyone go back to sleep. It's amazing how it starts so early! So, we got up, read the Christmas Story, opened our stockings and a few gifts, skyped with my parents and by the time the sun ACTUALLY came up, we were all tuckered out! Ha! But then we had to get ready for church and head on our merry way.

Christmas Eve

So, this week has been a sort of sick, boring, stay-at-home kind of week. Not too much to blog about. But, we are feeling much better now so today (Christmas Eve), we were a bit more active. We woke up this morning to find the first good amount of snow for the year had fallen. So, this afternoon we bundled up and took Emma to the roof of our apartment (mostly because there are no big open areas around here) to "play" in the snow.

Which pretty much ended up in failure. But we got a few pics anyway. :)

And then we headed over to our friends' house, the Romsas, for Christmas Eve Dinner. We'll also be having Christmas Day Dinner there as well! But it was nice to spend the evening with our fellow friends. Below are a few pics of the night.

Christmas Break is Here!

Well, we started off our Christmas break with a bang, literally. Been dealing with a pukey, whiney baby for a few days now. BUT, things are starting to look better on that end. Too bad she's getting a nasty cold now!

We are thankful, though, to have 3 whole weeks at home to rest and recuperate and to celebrate our Savior's Birth! Above I have posted a video taken a few days BEFORE the stomach issues hit that should make you smile. It did when I just watched it now. Enjoy!

Kid's Cafe

On Thursday our church's "Mom's Group" took a sort of field trip to a Kid's Cafe. I'm not sure if they have places like this in the States but they are pretty awesome! It really is a coffee shop where Mom's/Parents can go and relax while their kids can go play in with all the great toys they have! It is kind of like a McDonald's play area, only with a lot more thrown in. They even had things like walkers and bouncy seats for the little little ones. If we had wanted to, there were even cubicles where the Moms could get on the internet while their kids played! Pretty sweet. Stocking are a big part of my family Christmas traditions and this week we received THREE big boxes from my parents (one for each of us) filled with Christmas presents and stockings WITH the stocking stuffers already in them. You're the best, Mom! Thank you so much for sending all that stuff and for helping make our Christmas away from "home" this year extra special. We'll have to skype when opening it all. Oh, and also thank you to others who have either sent us gifts or sent them with us in our luggage this summer. We have been good and not opened them yet, but can't wait! We love you, all!

Christmas Concert Bake Sale

The afore mentioned frosted sugar cookies (all 200 of them) were sold at this bake sale last Friday during our school's Christmas Concert to help raise money for our Mission Trip to the Philippines this year. Not sure if I have mentioned this yet, but Eric & I (and Emma!) will be leading the trip once again this year. We are super excited. More details on this are sure to follow.

I am loving being at home this year for Christmas and have a long list of Christmas foods and snacks that I want to or already have made this month. I have already made Sugar Cookies a few times and even got to have a frosting/decorating party with some High School girls to sell them at a fundraiser bake sale we recently had. I also have made Chex Party Mix which is something my mom always makes over the Holidays. I remember growing up that another thing my family used to made was almond bark covered pretzels. Sooooo.... when I found the container pictured below at Costco I immediately decided to cover them with chocolate for a Christmas snack. Notice they have PEANUT BUTTER inside them! Yum!!!

They only lasted a day.

ICS Staff Christmas Party

This past weekend our school held it's annual Christmas Party for the staff. This year I had the privilege of heading up the planning committee. Our theme was "A Hometown Christmas" so the decorations, games, & the picture taking area was set up to give a "homey" feel to our group. We talked about family traditions and even made gingerbread "houses!" It was a fun evening and I am pleased with how it turned out.

An early Christmas?

Yesterday it felt like Christmas came early to our house because we received THREE packages in the mail from super generous people who love us and were kind enough to send us things we didn't desperately need but wanted anyway. THANK YOU SO MUCH Larry & Bonnie Zanger, Larry & Annie Lambert, and Grace Maxwell! Now our holiday season will be complete because I have all the baking supplies I need for Christmas goodies and Emma's head and hands will be toasty warm because she'll be wearing the most adorable hand-made hat and mittens OR one of the cute headband/hair clips she got! We love you guys!

Last Baseball Game

8 Months Old!

On Thanksgiving day my baby turned 8 months old. In the hustle and bustle of the day we ended up not taking any pictures at ALL! :( However this was taken the following day and shows just how active our little girl is becoming. She loves standing and has even pulled herself up to a standing position using furniture. She also loves walking (with help) and will ALWAYS try to get whoever is with her to help her walk around. She has recently learned to sit up on her own from a laying position and loves to practice it... especially at bedtime! Her crawl is quickly morphing from an army crawl into a full out crawl on her hands AND knees... almost. She loves "talking" and a few of her favorite games are peek-a-boo and flying around the room with Daddy. She is wearing more and more 12 month size clothes. Still in size 3 diapers. Her favorite foods remain carrots and sweet potatoes but she is actually beginning to eat more and more non-pureed foods and seems to just prefer the real thing. Oh, and she can now feed herself the cheerios instead of waiting for me to put them in her mouth. She is down to 2 naps a day and also (finally) usually sleeps a good 11 hours at night. She rarely cuddles yet always wants me right with her to play. She understands what it means when you say "yay!" and start clapping. She even tries to join in the clapping although doesn't have it quite down yet. We took her to the doctor for more shots yesterday and here are her stats: 27.3 inches & 21.6 pounds. It seems like her rate of gaining weight is finally slowing down but her cheeks and double chin would make you think otherwise. :) We love our baby bear and are still constantly amazed and blessed to see her development and growth into a sweet little girl.

Panera Bread Broccoli Cheese Soup & Grilled Cheese Sandwiches

A Few Backlogged Photos

This year my husband gets the privilege of being the yearbook advisor at ICS. That means that he frequently has the yearbook camera around. So, tonight I went through all 4,500 pictures and downloaded a few to our personal computer and thought I'd share them with you.

The 1st is of the ICS staff this year. Not as many this year but they sure do look sharp in those Conqueror polos!

And then I found this incriminating series of photos. OINK (ONLY in Korea) could my husband, as the coach/chaperone of a team at the volleyball tournament in Seoul, uninvited just barge in on a traditional drumming group and then (below) also uninvited dress himself in an advertisement suit for an unknown business and dance around like a clown waving at traffic AND... the Koreans LOVED it! (Not pictured in these photos but you know he has to be Eric's partner in crime, Mr. Tad Romsa - ICSPTK Director. sigh. boys. :)

And these last photos were taken by Eric a few weeks ago at the school's Book Fair. I was able to help with the planning of the Book Fair again this year and even went in to work a few 1/2 days with Emma to help Pam, the new Librarian, out. I really had a lot of fun (and I think Emma did too). The pics below are of when an outside Korean hagwon group came in for a storytime and to buy books.

I had a lot of fun but, WHEW, would it be difficult to work full-time and also be a Mommy! I admire those women who do.

8 Months Later...

So, I started this project way back in March a few weeks before Emma was born. I guess it was that "extra burst of energy" every pregnant woman is supposed to have before going into labor. Well, the burst obviously didn't last too long because I did not finish then. I had good intentions of having this done and up in Emma's room when we brought her home from the hospital. And when that didn't happen I even took this project TO the hospital with me when we checked in for my induction. (WHAT was I thinking?!?!) Anyway, suffice to say... it didn't get done. And then I just never really thought about it until a few days ago. My inspiration came after a morning MOPS meeting where we got to get creative and iron-on (yes, I know it was only iron-on but that's my kind of crafting anyway) cute designs onto onsies for local mom's in the area in need. It must have gotten my creative juices flowing because I came home full of energy and ready to craft. I finished this project that day and put it up in Emma's room the next. Who knows, I may even get out our wedding scrapbook and attempt to finish it! ha!

People frequently ask me what kinds of foods I cook for meals "over here in Korea." This especially happens when I'm back in the States visiting. And although I cook all the time, I usually have a hard time answering this question. So, I've decided to periodically take pictures of our nightly meals and blog about them. This will not only help answer the question of what kinds of foods we eat "over here," but will also be a reminder and inspiration for me (and possibly others??) of a meal I can make sometime in the future when I look back and remember blogging about this. My Hubby's Birthday

Yesterday was my wonderful hubby's birthday! The day was spent just as he liked it... mostly at home with his family chilling out! Here is a photo journal of our day.6:30am - Emma helping Daddy open his present from my parents.

NICS Family Gathering

A few Fridays ago the ICS staff rented a bus that took us up to our sister school, YISS, for the annual NICS Fall Family Gathering. It was a time of encouragement, worship, professional development, and hang-out time with members of all 3 NICS school here in Korea. Emma and I, as well as our friends Gail and Isaac, got to go along too. These pictures are courtesy of Gail since we didn't bring our camera this time. It was a fun day. Moms and kids mostly just hung out but it was really nice just to get out of the house and hang out with some other mommies, some of whom we've met before, but really haven't seen in a long time. Gail & I ended up hanging out quite a bit with a friend we'd met at PFO 2 years ago. Since then, all 3 of us have added a(nother) child to our families! Hopefully we can do more with them in the future. Here are a few pics of the day.

Eric had the honor of giving the morning devotional talk to the group. I'd say there were about 200 people there. He did a great job!

I accidentally left the diaper bag at the school when we went out for coffee so Emma got the privilege of borrowing a cloth diaper from Isaac for a few hours! I made Gail document this event.

And in return Emma shared a sippy cup with Isaac since we have several for ourselves already. Fun times!

This picture just about says it all. Two of my favorite times of the day are when Emma's daddy comes home from school and Emma lights up with a big smile, and when I get to watch Eric read bedtime stories to Emma. It has been so neat to watch their relationship grow. In the 1st few months of her life, Emma was NOT comforted by Eric at ALL whenever she was upset and especially at bedtime. But recently, it's been so neat to see Emma truly come to LOVE her daddy. She loves spending time with him, is comforted by him when strangers make her cry (and um... pretty much all MEN make her cry these days), and she "crawls" all over him during story-time and lays her head on his shoulder or chest when she's tired. Priceless!

No, seriously, the other day after giving her a dose of it, she grabbed the bottle (with a tightly screwed on lid) out of my hands and started sucking on the top of it like a pacifier. I decided to clean off the pics on the camera this morning and there were only 15 on there from the entire week. (For us that is NOT a lot of pics). And below are the best of the lot. Not terribly interesting, but... this is my life right now. :)

Used my food mill for the 1st time to make peas into baby food. I was pretty excited about that. The food mill worked great AND out of 7 years in Korea, this is the 1st that I have ever found frozen peas! (And I can't find them anymore, so the package in our freezer is pretty precious). :)

The other day I was trying so hard to get Emma's hair to fit into a clip... for real. It's just not quite long enough. But I got a cute pic out of the deal.

Yes, I am sitting on the toilet in the bathroom in this one. :) Emma wore this dress yesterday that my mom had bought her and I had forgotten all day to take a picture of it. So, Eric snapped this picture RIGHT before Emma's bathtime. In fact, the buttons in the back are already undone. Whew! Almost missed it! This one's for you, Mom!

Korean-American Friendship Festival

This weekend our town, Songtan, held its annual Korean-American Friendship Festival. Basically there are a lot of booths (to buy food, give out information, or experience cultural art-making), a lot of carnival-like kid games, and big stage performances... All in the name of LOVE. :) haha! This year our school decided to have a booth to sell cookies and popcorn to raise money for a new playground as well as get our name out there and hopefully recruit some more students. All of the teachers and a lot of students signed up to work for a couple of hours each. Overall, I'd say it was pretty successful. Here are some photos of our booth and... Emma. Ok, so I just can't choose sometime so I have to show them ALL!

Everyday (ok, at least 2-3 times a week) I get out the camera and take some cute pics of Emma, then e-mail them to Eric at school. He LOVES getting to see his little girl throughout the day. He also always resets his computer background screen to whatever the daily pic is and then shows it off to whatever students are currently in his classroom. I think this is pretty sweet. Here are some of our recent favorites including several that I took and sent off this morning at the end!

A playdate + A real date = A GREAT Day!

Want to know why? Because a playdate in the morning makes the day go SO much faster when you are a stay-at-home Mommy. And it's really nice for both Emma and I to get some social interaction in. :) Then, a REAL date with my husband gives me some much needed away time with him.

Yesterday, both of these things happened and it was a GREAT DAY! (Oh, and I highly recommend the movie, "Mr. Popper's Penguins." Nevermind that it was the only English movie showing... we BOTH really enjoyed the show!)

An Evening WITH Daddy!

A couple of evenings ago, before this cold weather blew in, we had the opportunity to spend ALL evening with Daddy! It must have been Sunday now that I think about it because lately, with Eric's school and coaching (& baseball playing... although that doesn't happen very often do to the other things) schedule, he has been getting home pretty late each evening. And with Emma going to bed around 7:30pm each night, that doesn't leave much time for Daddy to see baby. I'm ok with it, though, because on those late nights I know that Eric is out for a good reason. Plus, I also know that this is just for a season and that he won't be coaching all year. BUT, it was nice on Sunday because we were able to take advantage of him being home and went out for a brief walk, play time at the park, got some food, & even did a little shopping!

Heading out from our house. This was the 1st time that we decided to try Emma in the big-girl stroller. (instead of putting her in the car-seat and attaching it on top.) She did really well!

We happen to have a small park about a 2 minute walk from our house, so we stopped there to "play" for a bit.

We're pretty sure she enjoyed being tossed in the air by Daddy!

Then we continued our walk and happened to stroll pass this spot on the sidewalk. I know it may seem childish, but do you see the names Eric & Laurie marked into the concrete there? Well, over 3 years ago Eric & I noticed this wet patch of sidewalk and decided to inscribe our names there. And here you can still see it! (Funny memory... I remember being upset that Eric wouldn't let me put a heart in between the names. Ha! Well, look where we are now!)

Then we went and picked up a box of our favorite cheap pizza here. PIZZA SCHOOL! And no, it's not actually a school where you go in and make your own pizzas.

And while we were waiting for our pizza to cook, I convinced Eric to walk across the street to the baby store and we ended up making 2 purchases! The 1st was of some more baby food containers for me to use when making Emma's food. And the 2nd was actually a toy! Other than the bath duckies we bought in the states, I think this might be the 1st toy we've ever bought for Emma! Yes, the rest were given to us. I'm sure that's the way it will be for many years to come... I've heard stories. Anyway, the above photo pictures Emma with her new ball.

"New" Furniture!

Remember this? It is a picture of Eric fixing our futon... the 1st time! This pic was taken around a year and a 1/2 ago. Well, let me tell you something. This futon went downhill quickly. By the beginning of this past summer, there were only 2-3 of those bottom slats in tact. Meaning basically the mattress/cushion was sitting on the floor.

So, when you sat (or laid) on the couch, it felt like you were in an uneaven bucket seat. NOT fun on the ol' back. And definitely not fun for a pregnant and then just-un-pregnant lady to sit on all day.

And do you remember this chair? It was the replacement chair for the old green one in the 1st photo above. I had high hopes of rocking my baby to sleep in this "nice" glider/rocker each night. Well, as it turn out, the rocker was broken making this chair very uncomfortable to sit in, much less rock in it. About the only thing it was good for was as a cat bed. Ug.

Well, we prayed and searched long and hard for a new couch and chair and God has been good to us. At the end of the school year, one of our long-time teacher friends was leaving and we got to have her couch. Below is a picture of 2 of the 3 or 4 men it took to bring it up our stairwell and into our narrow doorway.

Then, recently I found this chair on a facebook site called, Osan Flea Market. It looked like a really nice rocker at a reasonable price so we bought it! And let me tell you, it is SO NICE! Probably the nicest piece of furniture we have (excluding our bed which was brand new and a wedding present to us.)

So, now our living room looks like this and we are REALLY happy for the changes and how God has provided. Now we feel that we can actually have people over again and they can sit somewhere other than on the floor! Yay for gently used (American!) furniture.

Chusok with the Chungs

Do you remember this? It was taken last September (2010) on Chusok. Each year our landlord family invites us down for a traditional Korean meal to celebrate the holiday with them. Last year I was nearly 4 months pregnant and just starting to feel the need for maternity jeans. Well, I'm happy to say that I am out of those now and back into my regular jeans. yay!

But, that is not the point of this post. This year the Chungs invited us down again BUT with one new and exciting development. Usually the Grandma and Grandpa leave when we come over. I guess because they feel uncomfortable in their English capability. (However, Mr. Chung's English is REALLY good for his age!) Anyway, this year for the 1st time, the older couple STAYED while we were there and the Grandma even ate with us! I'm pretty sure it was due to them wanting to see and hold our cute white baby. But, hey, whatever works, right? We were so happy to be able to interact with them all. It was a good meal. We are hoping to have them all over for a Christmas meal again this year and hopefully be able to share more of our faith with them at that time. Anyway, below are a few pictures of everyone taking turns holding our precious Emma. (We even dressed her up briefly in her adorable, oversized, traditional hanbok for the occasion.)

I promised I would share about the "rest" of my birthday happenings since not a whole lot happened on Wednesday, my actual birthday. On Saturday afternoon one of our fellow teachers offered to babysit Emma while Eric and I went out to eat at Outback Steakhouse. Always a treat here. We don't have pictures of this (well, we do but there were on our other camera and I was too lazy to load them up!). But then we went home and my sweet husband had planned on us watching the movie "Australia" (get the connection?) a movie I had been wanting to watch recently. However, we were both SO TIRED that we ended up falling asleep instead of watching the movie! ha!

Then on Sunday evening, with a big group of teachers and friends, we went out to eat at a Korean Galbi place (our favorite one!) and then went bowling afterwards while bringing along some brownies and ice cream to share. We had such a fun time celebrating with our friends! I love that even though we are so far away from "home," that we still have a family here to celebrate and have fun with. Thanks, everyone, for a great birthday!

So, this is my 7th time wishing everyone in the States a Happy Chuseok on a holiday that they really know nothing about. Well, just know that it is similar to Thanksgiving and a big national holiday here. This year we decided to take advantage of the sales in the stores and buy our little Korean gal a traditional hanbok. It is way too big for her now but we're hoping it fits better by March so we can have her 1 year photos taken in it. Won't she be so cute?!

On another note... they say she has my eyes...

Big Girl!

Last night Emma finally moved out of our bedroom (yay!) and into her own bedroom (YAY!). She's such a big girl now sleeping alone in her very own room! To me this is big. When she was a month old I almost had panic attacks thinking of the day when she wouldn't be sleeping in the pack 'n play right next to me. But, thankfully, in just the perfect timing, God has taken those feelings away and these last couple of days I felt like we were really ready to do this. #1 Reason - because the weather has finally turned BEAUTIFUL and we don't need to run the AC at night (which we only have in our bedroom, not for the whole house). #2 Reason - I feel like she's definitely old enough to handle this now because she isn't eating at night anymore. #3 Reason - Her sleeping patterns had taken a turn for the worse with her waking up almost every hour of the night crying. I would have to get up and put her pacifier back in her mouth to get her to go back to sleep... EVERY TIME. So I wondered if putting her in her own room would help her sleep better. And it DID! She woke up a couple of times early in the night and then slept for a good 6 hours before crying 1 more time. But then she went back to sleep then too! YAY EMMA! I don't know whether it was the nice weather with the windows open, or less noises in the room from Mommy & Daddy, or somehow that subconsciously in her sleep she knew we weren't there and couldn't cry just because she could (knowing I'd be there... if that makes sense). Well, at any rate, I'm happy and thought I'd share this milestone with you all. Now I feel more like a family. I know we were before but now it's like... we have a kid! She needs her own room. We'll never be able to get a house that just has one bedroom. We need 2! Hard to wrap my mind around sometimes but, exciting!

Thank you to all who wished me a warm Happy Birthday yesterday. I appreciated the happy greetings very much. My day was pretty uneventful (don't worry, the "events" will all happen this weekend) with much of it being spent like every other day at home with Emma. But I am SO glad to be able to spend it with her. The highlights of the day, though, are pictured below. Highlight #1 - Opening my gift from my parents in the morning (with Emma's help of course!) Highlight #2 - not pictured but I got to nap with Emma in the morning. Highlight #3 - going to another ICS volleyball game and getting to see my husband. After the game he also got me a huge bouquet of flowers. It was a good day. Stay tuned for a post about this weekend.

Volleyball

This past Saturday was the 1st ICS Volleyball game. Once again, my wonderful hubby is the assistant coach for the boys team. Eric really loves working with Tad, the head coach, and getting to spend the extra time with the kids outside of school.

So, Saturday we all headed out to the game. It was Emma's 1st volleyball game Ever! I think she enjoyed it. And, of course, all the students enjoyed HER too!

Keegan was born here in Korea about 2 months after Emma was born. So that means his mom, Anna, and I were pregnancy buddies (although we didn't really get to hang out much during that time). So it was nice yesterday when we were able to get the babies together, watch them "play," and have ourselves a good Mommy Chat. Here are a few pictures I was able to snap.

Making Baby Food

I am not a super crafty person. I don't sew or have many craft nights at my house. But one thing I DO like to do is cook. But originally, before Emma was ever born, I never gave making my own baby food much thought. It seemed very intimidating to me. But then Eric and I started looking at the prices of baby food jars here in Korea and they are priced anywhere from 3,500 won to 4,200 won. Which is about $3.50-$4.20. OUCH! And that's only for 1 jar that MIGHT last 2 servings with a baby. So, because of the price of that, plus the fact that we already have to formula feed, I told Eric that when Emma was ready to eat solids, I'd make them. And BOY am I glad that I did! #1 thing I've found out so far... It is FUN! #2 thing I've learned... making baby food is the easiest thing in the world. I made carrots the other day and literally all you have to do is peel 2 carrots, chop them up, boil them, & blender them with a little milk. And for the price of 2 carrots (maybe a dollar??) I got 4 "jars" worth of baby food out of it. 4 jars here would roughly cost me $15 so already I've saved so much money! Plus, now I know exactly what is going into my baby's belly.

Needless to say... I'm a fan!

Happy 5 months to my baby!

You are growing up before my very eyes and it is amazing to watch! It seems that you learn something new everyday! I'm going to take this opportunity to share with the world some of the wonderful milestones and things you've been up to lately.

There's no better way to celebrate turning 5 months old than by learning to fully turn over by yourself. Yes, that's right! And if you'd like to see a video of this epic feat (yes, it is epic in the video) then you'll have to check out facebook. You won't be disappointed. Now, this is the hard turning over - the back to front. She was able to do front to back much earlier but has taken her sweet time with this one since she hated being on her belly until, oh say... yesterday! haha! Guess she has a mind of her own!

She also decided to celebrate her 5 month birthday by sleeping ALL THE WAY THROUGH THE NIGHT!!! Now, she's done this a couple of other times but it hasn't been consistent yet. Usually, she still wants a bottle around 4am. Which is fine. But I think she is well on her way to being able to sleep through the night every night. Yayayay!

Emma has also been learning to eat rice cereal these last couple of weeks. She has been doing so well lately with opening her mouth up wide and swallowing the whole thing. Doing well, that is, until I tried to sneak in a little mashed banana into the cereal yesterday. The above picture tells you how she felt about it.

The rest of these pictures aren't necessarily milestone but rather just things Emma likes to do to fill her time. (And cute pics I thought you'd like to see. :) Emma still loves to stand up (assisted). And also loves to model super cute outfits people have given us!

She loves eating paper. However, this habit was abruptly cut off in church last week when we discovered that she literally was EATING the bulletin and had some bit off and stuck to the roof of her mouth!

Recently Emma has had a fetish with her tongue. She loves sticking it out like this.

And as always, she loves sitting and playing with her toys. She is getting so strong and can al.most.do.it.a.lone... Almost.

I wonder what the next milestone will be. Any guesses?

It's baseball time again!

Saturday marked the 1st baseball game Eric has gotten to play in since he hurt his ankle last April. It was also Emma's 1st time seeing her daddy play ball. And I must say, they didn't disappoint! I believe the final score was 9-0. Undefeated still!

We went to JC Penny's while we were in Chicago to have professional portraits taken of her and our family. I am thrilled with the result!

Dinner with the Housers

Our good friends, the Housers, came over for dinner last night. I should have gotten a group shot of us, or at least some of us eating. However, the real show of the night was how their son, Caleb, entertained Emma. He was just running around having lots of fun, especially with a blow up ball. But Emma just cracked up and LOVED watching him. He made her laugh. She made him laugh. And they both made us all laugh. Fun times.Caleb sharing the ball with EmmaEmma so happy to receive the ball.

In case you were missing your Emma fix for the week...Even though this outfit is still a smidge big, I decided to dress Emma in it yesterday and am so glad I did. Isn't she just so darn cute?!? We decided to brave driving our old beat-up car to Seoul to go shopping at Costco yesterday. It was a good trip and I have to say that Emma was the STAR of the show. Everyone stopped to look at her, talk to her, oogle over her cuteness, and one lady even picked her up and held her for bit! We didn't mind though. It was fun and since it was just us there (and not a whole van-full of other teachers) we had the extra time to spend.
Emma wanted to see what was going on so I decided to try and see if she could sit up in the child seat of the cart. And... she loved it! Saved my arms from carrying her too!

Yep, We're Back!

We've been back in Korea now for a week already! My how time flies. Our trip back with ourselves and ALL this luggage went just fine. Emma didn't get a bassinet this time but a nice Korean gate agent lady gave us a whole ROW of seats (4) in Economy plus so that Emma could lay down between us on the long, 12 hour flight. It was awesome! Emma didn't sleep as much this time but she still did really well traveling. She's our superstar! I can't believe how well she took all the new people, places, and experiences that we introduced her to this summer. Now if we could just get her back to a normal sleeping and eating schedule. Ha! Well, she's almost there. Just need to get her to stop waking up at 5am.

This week we've been busy unpacking, cleaning, working at school (Eric), and generally putting our lives back in order before the craziness of school hits next week. We've also spent some fun chill time as a family together since I know our time with Daddy home like this is quickly coming to an end. Next week, Monday, starts Orientation at school for teachers. It will be weird for me not to be there this year. I know that I'll have to go through a bit of a grieving process, and probably won't be able to keep myself away totally... but in the end I am SO HAPPY to be able to stay home with my wonderful, beautiful, precious daughter and teacher her/minister to her here. My job description... it's a changin'!

Other Random Happenings in Oak Brook

We've been in Oak Brook now for about 3 weeks and the time is quickly coming where we will have to say goodbye. On Thursday we will make the long trek back over the ocean. (Can you believe that this will be my 25th time doing it???) So before we leave I'd like to update you all on our happenings here. Hopefully, I'll have enough time to do one last post about our trip to the zoo as well. Then... Lord willing, our next post will be from Korea again!Quality time with Grandpa on the blanket.

Weekend at the Born's

We spent last weekend at Eric's sister's house. They are such an upbeat family so we had a blast doing many different activities with them. Emma was actually really tuckered out after a weekend of trying to keep up with all of her active cousins. But it was so great to be able to spend that time with them since we won't be able to see them again for another year!Lots of great "Uncle" playtime.

Mini-Vacation to Kearney (and Lincoln & Omaha)

Right before we flew to Chicago, we were able to spend a few days on "vacation" with our good friends, the Boysens. My brother was also able to spend a little bit of that time with us as well. We had a blast with all of them and love the idea of vacationing with them in the future as well.We started off in Kearney, NE and went the Great Platte River Road Archway. Basically it is a museum that is a bridge over Interstate-80. A fun little place to go to and learn a little history of the mid-west.

We spent the night in a hotel in Kearney that just so happened to have a swimming pool. So we trekked over to Wal-Mart to buy a little swimming suit for Emma. Needless to say, Emma's 1st swimming experience was not a pleasant one for her. I'm not surprised since she just learned to tolerate her bath time about 2 weeks before this. Plus, the water was SO COLD! You can see it in Emma AND Eric's faces below.

Then we traveled to Lincoln. Spent the night with them and then headed up to Omaha to spend a few hours together before our flight to Chicago. We decided to visit the big walk-over bridge that spans the Missouri River. I hadn't realized this before but there is MAJOR flooding going on there so it was interesting to walk over the bridge and see it all.

We love the Boysens! Thank you so much for letting us spend this special time with you year after year! You are such great friends and such great support for us!

We ran a FIREWORKS stand! And boy was it intense! BUT we had a lot of fun and even made a little money in the process. Below are pictures of our tent and then a few from our 4th of July family bash we had here. We had so much fun spending this holiday with family. Tomorrow we leave and we will miss you all greatly!

Emma LOVES her Great Grandma!

So far, Emma has seen her Great Grandma Myers 3 times now. And for some reason, every time she sees her, Emma always gets REALLY excited and just laughs away in happiness. It is so sweet to watch. Just fills my heart with joy to hear my baby so happy like that. Check out the video at the bottom here. You are in for a treat!4 generations!
